Afrobeat superstar Ololade Ahmed, popularly known as Asake, has disclosed that he is more comfortable singing in his native language, Yoruba, than in the English language.

During a recent interactive session with fans on Instagram, the singer of the hit song ‘Ome Ope’ expressed that while he is capable of singing in English, he feels a stronger connection and sense of comfort when singing in his native Yoruba dialect.

The singer urged people who are unwilling to embrace his predominantly Yoruba singing to consider refraining from listening to his music entirely, as he is not willing to compromise the style.

“I am more comfortable singing in Yoruba, it’s not that I can’t sing in English. If you fvck with me, fvck with me with my Yoruba. If not, then don’t,” he said.

Asake has released three albums so far, namely ‘Mr Money With The Vibes’ in 2022, ‘Work of Art’ in 2023, and the most recent one titled ‘Lungu Boy’. Notably, the majority of the songs in these albums are sung in the Yoruba language.

Despite being predominantly sung in Yoruba, his hit song ‘Amapiano’ was nominated in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys. Unfortunately, it lost to South African singer Tyla’s viral hit ‘Water’.
